What is Shelter-in-Place?
Shelter-in-place is a safety procedure where individuals take immediate refuge indoors during an emergency, such as a hazardous materials incident, severe weather event, or other situations where the outside environment poses a threat.
When to Shelter-in-Place
You may be instructed to shelter-in-place by emergency officials during:
Chemical spills or hazardous materials incidents
Severe weather events (tornadoes, hurricanes, etc.)
Terrorist attacks or other acts of violence
Airborne biological or chemical threats
